Lorde Cancels Luxembourg Gig Due to Severe Food Poisoning
Lorde cancels show after being 'unable to stand up'

New Zealand pop star Lorde was forced to cancel her performance in Luxembourg at the last minute after being struck down by a severe case of food poisoning that left her unable to stand.

Last-Minute Cancellation

The 29-year-old singer, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, made the difficult decision to pull out of her scheduled show at Luxembourg's Rockhal venue on November 10 with just hours remaining before she was due on stage. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lorde explained she had been "resting all day, hoping I'd be well enough" but ultimately realised she couldn't perform for her fans.

"I came down with ruthless food poisoning last night, and I'm still too sick to play for you today," she wrote. "I can hardly stand up, and you deserve more." The artist expressed her deep disappointment at missing what would have been her first-ever performance in Luxembourg, describing the situation as "beyond gutting."

Rescheduling Plans and Ongoing Tour

Lorde assured disappointed ticket holders that she and her team are "actively working with the promoter on rescheduling" the Luxembourg performance. She advised fans to hold onto their tickets for now, confirming that refunds would be available if the new date proves inconvenient.

Despite this setback, the singer indicated that upcoming shows in Paris, the UK, and Dublin would proceed as planned, suggesting she expects to make a swift recovery. Her Ultrasound tour continues with several UK dates scheduled for November 2025:

  • Manchester on November 15
  • London's O2 Arena on November 16 and 17
  • Glasgow on November 19
  • Birmingham on November 20
  • Dublin on November 22

Personal Journey and New Album

The cancellation comes during Lorde's successful Ultrasound tour, which began in Texas in September and features support acts including Blood Orange, The Japanese House, and Nilüfer Yanya. The tour promotes her critically acclaimed album "Virgin," released in June 2025, which debuted at number one in both New Zealand and the UK.

In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1's Jack Saunders, Lorde opened up about her creative struggles prior to creating the album, revealing that an eating disorder had previously stifled her songwriting abilities. "At the beginning of 2023 I was not in a great way on a lot of levels," she shared. "I'd never felt more disconnected from my creativity."

Thankfully, after a period of recovery, her creative energy returned, resulting in "Virgin," an album that explores deeply personal themes including body image, family relationships, the end of a romance, and gender identity.

Lorde's candid approach to her personal challenges has resonated with fans, particularly through her collaboration with Charli XCX on the remix of "girl, so confusing," where she addressed her past struggles with body image and mental health.
