Liam Gallagher's Hilarious U-Turn on Rock Hall After Oasis Induction
Liam Gallagher Roasts Himself Over Rock Hall Induction

Liam Gallagher's Self-Deprecating Response to Rock Hall Induction

Liam Gallagher has hilariously roasted his own previous criticism of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after Oasis was officially confirmed among this year's prestigious inductees. The 53-year-old Manchester rocker, known for his outspoken nature, completely reversed his earlier stance with a series of tongue-in-cheek social media posts that delighted fans and highlighted his trademark humor.

From Criticism to Acceptance

Gallagher had been notoriously critical of the institution in recent years, telling The Sunday Times in 2024: "As much as I love Mariah Carey and all that, I want to say: Do me a favor and f*** off. It's like putting me in the rap hall of fame, and I don't want to be part of anything that mentally disturbed. Besides, I've done more for rock & roll than half of them clowns on that board, so it's all a load of bollocks." He had previously dismissed the Hall of Fame as something involving "some geriatric in a cowboy hat."

However, following the official announcement that Oasis would be inducted in 2026, Gallagher took to X (formerly Twitter) with what he called an "acceptance speech," writing: "I wanna thank all the people who voted for us it's a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I'd dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of fame it's true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream LG x."

Fans Call Out the U-Turn

Fans were quick to notice the dramatic change in attitude, with one responding: "what happened to not wanting to be in it hmmmmmm." Gallagher leaned into the joke completely, replying with another self-deprecating post: "Well I was speaking to my mummy last night when the news broke and she thinks I may have been a little hasty with my perception of the organization she's told me to stop being a dick and go to the awards and behave and you never know you might enjoy it."

Earlier in the week, when the nomination was first announced, Gallagher had hinted at this change of heart by joking about "reverse psychology vibes." When a fan teased that he wasn't "too good for it after all," Gallagher replied simply: "Nope." He also joked that his real acceptance speech would involve "a box of chocolates and flowers" and an apology to organizers.

Record British Representation

Oasis joins an impressive 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class that includes Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order (considered a single act), Sade, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan. This year's induction marks a significant milestone for British music, with six UK acts among the eight inductees—a record for the Hall's 40-year history.

The previous record for British inductees in a single year was five, set in 2019 when Radiohead, The Cure, Def Leppard, Roxy Music and The Zombies were honored. This represents a dramatic shift from as recently as 2021, when there were no British inductees at all. Artists become eligible for consideration 25 years after their first commercial release.

Gallagher Family Ambivalence

Liam isn't the only Gallagher brother to have expressed mixed feelings about the institution. His brother Noel Gallagher, 58, previously said he would not attend an induction ceremony despite visiting the Hall of Fame museum in Cleveland. "I know what it is... it won't be happening," he said in 2017, though he joked: "I certainly think I do deserve inclusion."

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame selection process involves a panel of approximately 40 music industry figures who nominate candidates, followed by voting from more than 1,200 voters—including all living inductees. The first British act inducted was The Beatles in 1988, though even that historic moment was marked by internal tensions, with Paul McCartney skipping the ceremony.

This year's induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, where Oasis will officially take their place among rock music's most celebrated artists—despite Liam Gallagher's previous protests and current humorous acknowledgment of his changed perspective.
