The men's 100m heats marked the beginning of the athletics programme at the Scotstoun Stadium, with Ghana's Benjamin Azamati leading the action at the start. Saint Helena's Tye Leo-Stroud caught attention with a colourful hairstyle after his heat.
Boxing and weightlifting deliver intense moments
In boxing, Paddy Hewitt of England was punched by Orlando Holley-Sotomi of Wales during the men's 70kg bout. Weightlifting saw Edidiong Umoafia of Nigeria take gold in the men's 71kg event, while Emmanuel Boateng of Ghana also competed. Kester Loy of Singapore took a dramatic tumble during the men's 71kg clean and jerk.
Gymnastics and swimming highlights
Australia's Georgia Godwin competed in the artistic gymnastics women's all-around final, and James Hardy dusted his hands with chalk during the men's floor exercise final. Scotland's Reuben Ward also performed in the men's floor exercise final. In swimming, Barbados' Victor Ashby raced in the men's 200m butterfly heats, and Jenna Forrester of Australia competed in the women's 400m individual medley heats.
