Celebrity Traitors Wins Bafta for Best Reality Show with Record 15.4M Viewers
Celebrity Traitors Wins Bafta Best Reality Show

The Bafta TV Awards have arrived for another year, and the ceremony is already proving to be a spectacular event. It has been a stacked year for British and global television, with massive hits, media personalities, creatives, and actors all vying for one of the season's most prestigious accolades.

This year's nominees included award season darling Adolescence across all major categories, hit reality shows like Last One Laughing, and television dramas such as Blue Lights, A Thousand Blows, and The White Lotus, all dominating the lists. As expected, Adolescence has picked up top awards, including Limited Drama and Supporting Actor, where 16-year-old Owen Cooper added another trophy to his collection.

With the night still young, Celebrity Traitors is already reaping the rewards of its mega-success. The show broke viewership records last autumn with a staggering 15.4 million viewers for its first season. As the star-studded second season began filming in Scotland just this week, the BBC series scooped the prize for Best Reality Show, beating out The Jury: Murder Trial, Squid Game: The Challenge, and The Traitors.

The show also has high hopes in other categories, including a nomination for host Claudia Winkleman and Alan Carr's epic win. In her acceptance speech, Claudia said: 'Bafta, thank you so, so much for this. This is unbelievable. Thank you to every single person who works on the show. It is such an honour to be part of this extraordinary show. This is absolutely for our extraordinary cast who played with dignity, gusto and their entire hearts, and we love them.'

Meanwhile, accepting his latest major award, Wuthering Heights star Owen Cooper said: 'Wow, it's heavy that, to be fair. A year ago I was presenting an award and now I'm collecting one. This is a bit mad.' He added: 'In the words of John Lennon, you won't get anything unless you have the vision to imagine it. So in my eyes I think you only need three things to succeed: one, you need an obsession; two, you need a dream; and, three, you need The Beatles.'

Other winners from the night, hosted by Greg Davies, include Katherine Parkinson for Here We Go and Steve Coogan for How Are You? It's Alan (Partridge). The Bafta TV Awards will broadcast on BBC One from 7pm tonight.
