Husnain Ramzan, a content creator from Ilford, East London, spent £300 to fly from London to Manchester to watch Sir Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX. His four-word review: 'I absolutely loved it.'
Why the journey?
Only three cinemas in the UK have 70mm IMAX facilities, one of which is Vue Manchester Printworks. Determined to experience the film in the format Nolan intended, Ramzan flew from Heathrow to Manchester on July 18, the day after the film's release. He watched it at Printworks and returned the next day to see it again at Cineworld Superscreen.
Ramzan explained: 'I'm incredibly passionate about cinema. I wanted to experience The Odyssey in one of the few 70mm IMAX venues available in the UK. Christopher Nolan's films are made with premium formats in mind, and I knew this was a cinema experience I'd remember for the rest of my life.'
Social media buzz
Ramzan shared his experience on social media, garnering over 87,000 views. Reactions were overwhelmingly positive, with many fellow film fans sharing similar stories. 'Most people have been incredibly supportive and have understood why I wanted to make the journey,' he said. 'I'd do it again in a heartbeat.'
Box office success
The Odyssey debuted to critical acclaim and earned approximately £196m in its opening weekend, marking Nolan's strongest debut, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises (£186m) and Oppenheimer (£134m). Nolan has indicated he may take a break after the demanding production, telling The Guardian: 'I'm so desperate to have a period I have nothing to do.'
