Arsenal fans have an exciting opportunity this May to explore the club's rich history through a free exhibition of iconic shirts. Hosted at The Weavers Arms in Islington, the exhibition titled 'From Woolwich to the Emirates – 140 Years of Shirts' showcases a curated collection of historic football shirts that trace the evolution of kit design and the club's journey from its origins in Woolwich in 1886 to its modern home in North London.
What to Expect at the Exhibition
Visitors will discover rare and classic tops, including shirts from Arsenal's last season at Highbury and iconic designs like the 'bruised banana jerseys' that were fan favorites. The exhibition is curated by Abdul Rashid Zakari and focuses on community celebration of football heritage, collectors' culture, and the stories behind the shirts.
Arsenal's Current Success
The exhibition coincides with Arsenal's historic season, as they sit top of the Premier League with three games remaining, aiming for their first league title in 22 years. They also face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Final in Budapest on May 30, with a provisional trophy parade scheduled for May 31.
The free exhibition runs throughout May at The Weavers Arms, 98 Newington Green Road, N1 4RG, Islington. It offers a unique chance to walk down memory lane and appreciate the deep connection between supporters and the shirts worn by their heroes.
