Corrections and Clarifications

This article provides a summary of recent corrections and clarifications made by the editorial team.

Fahrenheit Conversion Errors

An editing error in a previous article stated that a temperature rise of 6C was equivalent to 43F. This was incorrect; the correct conversion for a change of 6C is 10.8F. The error appeared in “The unfolding catastrophe you haven’t even heard of” (23 April, Journal, p1). Additionally, a statement that most fish or seafood destined to be eaten raw or lightly cooked must be frozen at -20C (68F) was mistaken. The correct Fahrenheit conversion for -20C is -4F, not 68F, which corresponds to about room temperature (20C). This error was in “Help! There’s a cockroach in my coffee” (18 April, Saturday magazine, p16).

Geographic Correction

In “Blooming Scotland” (18 April, Saturday magazine, p72), it was incorrectly stated that Harris is an island. In fact, Harris is not an island but part of the larger island of Lewis and Harris in the Outer Hebrides.
