Time Out Market London is set to open its doors in summer 2028 at 10 Piccadilly, overlooking Piccadilly Circus, marking the brand's debut in the UK capital. The venue will house approximately 15 restaurants, bars, and food businesses, along with a programme of live entertainment and cultural experiences.
A Landmark Location with Rich History
The Grade II listed building, which completes the iconic Regent Street curve, was originally home to the Swan & Edgar department store and later became famous as the site of Tower Records in the 1980s. The Crown Estate, which owns the property, is redeveloping the site to create a 26,400 sq ft hospitality destination across the ground, basement, and first floors, which will be occupied by the Time Out Market.
In addition to the market, the development will include 62,700 sq ft of prime office space and 1,700 sq ft of retail space on Regent Street. The refurbishment is part of The Crown Estate's long-term vision for the West End, aiming to reinvigorate the historic area while attracting world-class businesses and visitors.
Global Expansion Comes to London
Time Out Group, which launched its first market in Lisbon in 2014, now operates 13 markets globally, including in Barcelona, Cape Town, New York, and Vancouver. The London opening follows previous attempts to establish a market in the city, including a project near Waterloo that was withdrawn in 2021 and a plan for a Spitalfields site that was scrapped shortly after, due to pandemic disruption and planning issues.
The group is also developing new venues in Delhi, Abu Dhabi, Sao Paulo, Prague, and Riyadh. Chris Ohlund, chief executive of Time Out Group, described the partnership with The Crown Estate as "one of the most significant milestones in Time Out's nearly 60-year history." He added, "Bringing the globally recognised Time Out Market concept home to London is both a celebration of where we began and a statement of where we are going."
Impact on the West End
Kristy Lansdown, Managing Director of Development at The Crown Estate, said: "These developments mark the next step in our long-term vision for the West End, redeveloping historic buildings to reinvigorate an equally historic place. Our ambition is to shape a destination that continues to attract world-class businesses and visitors, while strengthening the city's future resilience."
The opening is expected to boost the local economy by drawing both tourists and Londoners to Piccadilly Circus, a area already known for its vibrant food and culture scene. With 26,400 sq ft dedicated to hospitality, the market will offer a diverse range of culinary experiences, potentially creating hundreds of jobs and contributing to the West End's post-pandemic recovery.
What to Expect
Time Out Market London will feature a carefully curated selection of the city's best food and drink vendors, chosen by Time Out's editorial team. The venue will also host live performances and cultural events, making it a destination not just for dining but for entertainment. The exact list of vendors has not yet been announced, but given Time Out's track record, it is likely to include a mix of established favourites and emerging talents.
The market is part of a broader trend of food halls and markets opening in London, offering visitors a more informal and diverse dining experience. With its prime location and historic setting, Time Out Market London is poised to become a major attraction in the heart of the West End.
