Burger King in Eltham has reopened its doors after enforcement agents seized possession of the property, forcing a temporary closure at the end of September. The fast food restaurant, located on Eltham High Street, is now operating as usual, according to a spokesperson for Burger King UK.
Enforcement action and possession notice
A notice displayed in the restaurant's window at the end of September revealed that enforcement agents, acting on behalf of the landlord, had "re-entered and recovered possession" of the premises. The notice gave the tenant until October 7 to remove goods from the takeaway, warning that failure to do so could result in the bailee selling or disposing of the goods.
The notice also cautioned that "any attempt by you or your agents to enter the demised premises will result in criminal/civil proceedings being taken against you." This enforcement action led to the temporary shutdown, which has since been resolved.
Reopening and customer service
Burger King confirmed the temporary closure and subsequent reopening in a statement. A spokesperson said: "Burger King® UK can confirm that the Eltham restaurant temporarily closed at the end of September but has since reopened and is now open to customers as usual." The restaurant is now welcoming customers back to its High Street location.
Hygiene rating improvement
The Eltham branch had previously received a one-star food hygiene rating after an inspection on June 23, where inspectors found live and dead cockroaches on the floor, on work surfaces, and near soft drink cup dispensers. However, after a revisit in August, the restaurant scored the top rating, indicating significant improvements in hygiene standards.
The restaurant's reopening marks a return to normal operations for the Eltham High Street outlet, which has addressed both the possession notice and the hygiene concerns raised by inspectors.
