'I Was Screaming at the TV': Traitors Star Jade's Candid Confession

The Traitors is renowned for its ability to provoke visceral reactions from viewers, with audiences often shouting advice at their screens as contestants navigate the high-stakes game of deception. One participant from the BBC's hit reality series has now admitted to experiencing this same frustration firsthand while watching her own performance back.

Gameplay Frustrations and Strategic Missteps

Jade, a 25-year-old Faithful who reached the final of the show, revealed in an interview with Metro that viewing her gameplay was an infuriating experience. She described literally screaming at the television, urging her past self to identify the Traitors more effectively. 'I was like: "You need to find some capacity to find a Traitor. Get it together,"' she recounted. Jade acknowledged that she repeatedly targeted the wrong people during the competition, leading to mounting annoyance as she watched the episodes unfold.

Her strategy, she admitted, was somewhat retaliatory in nature. 'I was like: "Well, you're going for me, so I'm going to go for you." That was my whole strategy,' Jade explained. She felt compelled to take advantage of situations where she believed she was being set up by other players, though this approach didn't always yield the desired results.

Personal Revelations and Emotional Resilience

The journey to the final was punctuated by deeply emotional moments for Jade. During a dinner party hosted by Claudia Winkleman, where contestants shared what winning the prize money would mean to them, Jade expressed her desire to purchase her own home. This aspiration stemmed from profound personal loss, as she revealed that both her parents were found dead in 2018, following their divorce and her mother's relocation to Hong Kong.

'I've had to really rebuild myself from that point onwards,' Jade stated, expressing pride in her resilience and progress. When asked about sharing such a personal story on national television, she described the experience as 'empowering,' though she noted the difference between confiding in a small group and having it broadcast to millions.

The response from viewers, however, was overwhelmingly positive. Jade received an outpouring of support from people who related to her experiences of losing parents at a young age. 'I'm so happy that people can find a part of themselves represented,' she said, highlighting the importance of open discussion around grief and recovery.

Female Dynamics and Castle Role Models

Jade also reflected on the strong female presence within the game, citing contestants like Rachel, Harriet, and Amanda as inspirational figures. 'I really just want to be like you one day,' she recalled thinking, praising their intelligence and beauty. This season has featured notable confrontations among the women, including Fiona publicly challenging Rachel and Harriet's heated exchange with Roxy, which some viewers labelled as rude or ill-tempered.

When questioned about whether this series felt nastier than previous instalments, Jade disagreed with that characterisation. 'I don't think nasty is the right word for it. I think dramatic [is more suited],' she asserted. She emphasised that all contestants generally got along well, with no outright mean or bullish behaviour, attributing the explosive moments to the combination of strong personalities in close quarters.

'Everyone in there is such a diva and I love it. And when you put 22 divas in a house together, like it is just going to blow up, isn't it?' Jade remarked, acknowledging the inevitable drama that arises from casting charismatic individuals willing to be scrutinised by millions.

The Traitors continues to captivate audiences with its blend of strategic gameplay and personal storytelling, available for streaming on BBC iPlayer.
