An unfolding incident on the River Thames has brought that section of the water to a halt after a police boat carrying armed officers crashed near Westminster Bridge. Emergency services are dealing with the incident on the river Thames at Westminster Bridge in central London.

Emergency response underway

Responders from the RNLI could be seen treating casualties on a boat at Westminster pier. A large number of police officers, fire crews and ambulances are on the scene, with traffic across the bridge at a standstill. A police helicopter and an air ambulance were circling above.

The Port of London Authority said the incident at Westminster Bridge involved a police vessel. Ambulances and other emergency services have been seen responding in the area.

Port of London Authority Spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident involving a police vessel at Westminster Bridge. We are supporting the response by providing river traffic management assistance where needed and are working closely with the Metropolitan Police, HM Coastguard and partner agencies to manage the situation.”

Entrances to a London Underground station have been closed as the emergency response continues.
