Amazon Prime has finally unveiled the first official glimpse of Sophie Turner as the iconic adventurer Lara Croft in the upcoming television adaptation of Tomb Raider. The image, released on January 15, 2026, shows the Game of Thrones star in Croft's signature combat gear, complete with her trademark dual pistols and a pair of red-tinted goggles.
Star-Studded Production Takes Shape
The series, now officially in production, is being helmed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the acclaimed creator of Fleabag. Turner, 29, was confirmed for the lead role in September of last year, reportedly beating out competition from actors including Mackenzie Davis and Emma Mackey. In her initial statement, Turner expressed being 'thrilled beyond measure' to take on the part, acknowledging the 'massive shoes to fill' after Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander's film portrayals.
The cast has expanded into an impressive ensemble, with recent announcements confirming heavyweight names such as Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, and Celie Imrie. They join a supporting roster featuring Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, and Paterson Joseph, among others.
Passion Behind the Project
Both the star and showrunner have spoken passionately about bringing the video game legend to the small screen. Waller-Bridge described Turner as 'formidable' and emphasised the team's wild passion for the character, who she described as 'outrageous, brave, and hilarious'. She ended last year's announcement with a rallying cry to fans: 'Get your artefacts out — Croft is coming.'
The new series will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime, though a specific release date has yet to be confirmed. It marks the latest high-profile attempt to adapt the long-running video game franchise, which follows the globe-trotting exploits of the archaeologist and adventurer.
