Beloved ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly has shared the heartbreaking news that her father, John Kelly, has died at the age of 84 following a tragic accident on an icy path.

A Shock Loss for the Family

The 66-year-old television host announced the loss on Instagram, describing it as a 'shock' despite her father's recent 'poor health'. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 10 January 2026.

Police Scotland confirmed they were called at around 7am to a report of an injured man on a path near St Leonard’s Square in East Kilbride. The 84-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A police spokesperson stated: 'The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.' The family are aware and have been offered support by officers.

Lorraine's Heartfelt Tribute

Sharing a smiling photograph with her late father, Lorraine posted a moving tribute to her Instagram followers. She wrote: 'Very sad news. My dad has died.'

In her emotional post, she reflected on his profound influence, mourning 'the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the moon landings with me and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.'

She extended her thoughts to others who have experienced similar loss and asked for privacy for the family, stating their priority was caring for her mother. She signed off with the words: 'We will miss you dad ❤️'.

An Outpouring of Support

Messages of condolence quickly flooded in from friends, colleagues, and fans. Comedian and actor Dawn French wrote: 'Love wrapped around you,' while broadcaster Jeremy Vine added: 'I’m so sorry for your loss, Lorraine.'

Vanessa Feltz commented on the family's close bond, and fellow ITV star Ben Shephard sent 'love and hugs to all the family.'

John Kelly, a retired television service engineer, was 18 when Lorraine was born. In a previous Father's Day tribute from 2019, Lorraine credited him with giving her a 'love of reading, astronomy and a strong work ethic'.

The family originally lived in Glasgow's East End before moving to East Kilbride. In a 2008 interview, Lorraine revealed she lived in one room with her parents and brother until she was 13. Her father once said of her drive to succeed: 'Lorraine had hunger and drive, as well as ability.'
