In a dramatic turn of events on the famous cobbles, Coronation Street's Carla Connor (Alison King) and DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) are set to walk down the aisle, with show bosses confirming their wedding is imminent. This comes after a harrowing few months which saw Carla imprisoned by Lisa's supposedly deceased wife, Becky Swain.
From Cupboard Captive to Bride-to-Be
The path to the altar has been anything but smooth for the couple, known to fans as 'Swarla'. Their engagement was brutally derailed when Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) – who faked her own death – returned to manipulate Lisa and systematically destroy her relationship with Carla. Becky's campaign of lies culminated in her kidnapping Carla and holding her captive, first in an airing cupboard over Christmas and later in a shipping container.
While Carla was imprisoned, Becky convinced a grieving Lisa that her fiancée had callously jetted off to Lanzarote. She then reignited her past relationship with Lisa, a betrayal that Carla was forced to listen to in 'excruciating detail' while locked away. Carla's eventual rescue by Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) and Becky's subsequent arrest following a multi-vehicle pile-up seemed to signal a fresh start, but the psychological damage was deep.
Overcoming the Ghost of Becky Swain
The revelation that Lisa had slept with Becky during Carla's captivity initially proved too much for the factory boss, leading to a painful split. However, Executive Producer Kate Brooks has now revealed that with Becky's manipulations fully exposed, the couple are finding their way back to each other.
'Becky was an absolute obstacle thrown their way,' Brooks stated. 'Now they’ve dealt with Becky and her true colours have been revealed for all to see and Lisa’s realised the extent of the manipulation and the lies that Becky’s told, we’ll see them starting to make their way back to each other.'
Brooks emphasised the strength of their bond, noting: 'Obviously there’s a lot to get past but they love each other and that love never faltered throughout it all. The love remained strong, it was the circumstances that got in the way.'
Spring Wedding Bells on the Horizon
In a definitive promise to fans, Kate Brooks confirmed that wedding plans are now firmly back on the agenda. 'They’re engaged, so wedding bells are certainly ringing in the not too distant future and they’ll get their happy ever after,' she announced.
Brooks teased a brighter future, free from the shadow of Becky Swain: 'They’ll get the chance to finally be free from Becky and free from the drama that surrounded that story and be happy and content with each other. It’s going to be a romantic spring for Carla and Lisa, which will make many people smile, I imagine.'
This confirmation, published on January 8, 2026, sets the stage for a major romantic storyline on the ITV soap in the coming months, as Swarla finally moves past the trauma and towards their long-awaited happy ending.
