'She was one of the angels in our business, endlessly generous, interested in others and thrilled by their success,' Margoyles stated. 'I feel utterly bereft: a unique spirit has been taken very suddenly away from us.'

A Career in Spotlight and Support

Marian Diamond played the character Miss Shackleton in the groundbreaking Liverpool-set soap, Brookside. Her career also included significant work in radio after Margoyles joined the BBC Drama Rep Company in 1965.

Beyond her acting, she was remembered as a supportive figure. Paul Jackson, a stage manager, shared his own tribute, noting her long-standing support for the children's programme Play School and its archive.

'She was a gentle soul and did much work away from acting helping people. Will be sorely missed,' Jackson wrote. He added that he was thrilled to have seen her recently in December 2024 at a special screening of a recovered Play School episode.

A Family and Legacy Remembered

In her tribute, Miriam Margoyles also noted that Marian Diamond was predeceased by her sister, casting director Gillian Diamond, and close friend, actor Hugh Dickson, both of whom died in 2018. Gillian's sons survive her.

Margoyles concluded her emotional farewell with a hope for a well-attended funeral, writing: 'She deserves a full house. Marian, you’re held in my heart forever.'

The news has prompted an outpouring of grief from colleagues and fans, remembering a cherished talent from a classic era of British television.
