An adrenaline junkie filming a rollercoaster ride got more than he bargained for when a flying shoe smacked him in the face at 70mph. The incident unfolded on Sunday, August 2, 2026, on the Goliath ride at Six Flags Over Georgia in the US, a coaster known for its high speeds and steep drops.
The thrillseeker, who was recording the experience using Meta glasses, captured the moment a white trainer flew off a rider in the front row and hurtled toward his camera lens. The video, which has since gone viral, shows the shoe making contact with a thud, prompting an exclamation of 'Oh, my god' from the rider.
Unexpected catch
Despite the surprise impact, the rider managed to catch the shoe before it could plummet into the lake beneath the ride. 'The catch was completely unexpected and was not staged or planned in any way,' he told reporters. 'The video recorded on my Meta glasses captures the entire moment from my point of view, including my reaction after catching the shoe.'
In the footage, he can be heard shouting 'I got it!' after securing the airborne accessory, later holding it up proudly and declaring, 'I got the shoe!' The rider kept hold of the shoe throughout the rest of the ride, even as the coaster accelerated.
