Two years after Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May said goodbye, The Grand Tour is roaring back to life. Amazon Prime Video has dropped the first teaser for the rebooted series, giving audiences their initial look at the new presenting trio: Francis Bourgeois, James Engelsman, and Thomas Holland (not the Spider-Man one). While the show may have 'new knobs,' it promises to be the 'same show' — packed with motoring mayhem, stunts, and plenty of laughs.
Fans embrace the new era
Despite the absence of the original Top Gear trio, the trailer has been met with enthusiasm on social media. On Instagram, user waymoeuk wrote, 'I’m here for fresh knobs,' while mishaperiphery added, 'This is gonna be incredible.' Another commenter, keeping_a_lighthouse, said, 'Very open-minded for this new trio of knobs to make it their own. I think they will give it a bloody good go!!'
Even on Reddit, where skepticism often runs high, viewers are willing to give the new hosts the benefit of the doubt. User Sand0rf noted, 'They obviously have very big shoes to fill, but I’m very curious about this series.' Norridge-Moel added, 'Ok, that looks pretty awesome to be fair.'
High praise from a former skeptic
Perhaps the most robust endorsement came from Reddit user Glorious-Basterd, who admitted to being a former cynic. 'I’ve always been camp TG/TGT is nothing without the original trio, but I’m confident this new era is going to be great fun and worth tuning in for,' they wrote. 'Watching the trailer has solidified that for me. One reason being that Clarkson, May and Hammond called time on it themselves and with good reason, so unlike new Top Gear my disposition isn’t that I cynically wanted it to fail.'
They continued, 'On top of that, I’ve been getting myself acquainted with Throttle House for the first time recently and very quickly became a huge fan. Most importantly though, Andy Wilman being involved is all that I needed to hear to know the series was in good hands.'
Original trio to cameo
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Clarkson, Hammond, and May will make cameo appearances in the new series. Andy Wilman, co-creator and executive producer of Clarkson’s Farm, confirmed the news during an appearance on 3Bs radio at the Buckingham Literary Festival, as reported by The Sun. 'We’ve got three guys coming soon with a new Grand Tour, and we’ve got behind them,' Wilman said. 'We’re really supporting them. Our guys are in the shows doing cameos, so we’re wishing them well because we do want to pass that baton on.'
All episodes arrive September 4
All six episodes of The Grand Tour reboot will launch exclusively and globally on Prime Video on September 4. With a fresh lineup and the blessing of the original stars, the show aims to capture a new generation of petrolheads while keeping the spirit of the original alive.
