Harrods and The Knightsbridge Estate have released first images of a planned makeover for Hans Crescent, the West London street that runs alongside the iconic department store and serves as the main entrance to Knightsbridge Tube Station. The project, set for completion by autumn 2026, will introduce six new seating areas, new lampposts, a space for temporary art installations, and significant greenery including three new trees and approximately 80 square metres of planting.
Joint venture aims to enhance shopper experience
The revamp is a collaboration between The Knightsbridge Estate and Harrods. Michael Ward, Managing Director of Harrods, said: “Harrods is proud to be part of the revitalisation of Hans Crescent. The project goes beyond traditional urban enhancement; it creates an inclusive, welcoming communal space that elevates the shopper experience while prioritising sustainability. From the climate-resilient planting to the accessible seating designed by Andy Sturgeon Design, every element reflects our dedication to the long-term commitment to the stewardship of Knightsbridge.”
The Knightsbridge Estate, a large retail area between Harrods and Harvey Nichols, already has cafes, restaurants, and retail units. Redevelopment of a large portion of the estate has delivered 33 luxury rental apartments and a rooftop restaurant.
Council support for place-making
Cllr Josh Rendall, Lead Member for Transport, Parks, and Clean Streets at Kensington and Chelsea Council, said: “Hans Crescent is a great example of the kind of place-making our residents, businesses and visitors expect in Kensington and Chelsea; greener, cleaner, more welcoming and easier to enjoy on foot. Projects like this support our Amazing Spaces ambition by improving the public realm, strengthening local character and making our borough’s high streets and destinations even better places to spend time in.”
The works sit alongside other enhancements by The Knightsbridge Estate, including the pedestrianisation of Basil Street and a new step-free entrance to Knightsbridge Underground Station.
