London Eye's First Christmas Grotto Opens 135m High

For the first time in its history, the iconic London Eye is hosting a Christmas grotto, placing Santa Claus and his elves a breathtaking 135 metres above the city's rooftops. The festive attraction, named Santa in the Sky, opened to the public on Monday, December 1st and will run daily until Christmas Eve.

A Festive Transformation High Above London

Santa's helpers have been busy converting one of the landmark's capsules into a magical winter wonderland, complete with Christmas trees, snow, baubles, and festive music. The centrepiece is Santa's own polished red chair, ready for his arrival. Tickets for the experience are priced at £79 for one adult and one child, offering a unique festive meeting with Father Christmas during a 30-minute rotation on the giant observation wheel.

Robin Goodchild, senior general manager at the London Eye, expressed his excitement: "This is Christmas like you’ve never seen it before - magical, breathtaking, and guaranteed to get London talking. We wanted to create an unforgettable moment for our families, and we can’t wait to see the faces of children (and parents!) as they get the chance to meet Santa from 135m above the capital."

What to Expect at the Sky-High Grotto

The experience begins at a VIP check-in where young guests are greeted by festive characters like the Gingerbread Baker or The Toy Maker’s Apprentice. They then guide families to Mrs Claus’s Mail Room. Here, children can enjoy complimentary treats, write their Christmas wish lists, and post them to Santa before boarding their specially decorated pod.

During the 30-minute flight, families get a private meet-and-greet with Santa himself while enjoying unparalleled, festive views of London's skyline. The experience is designed to be a cosy and immersive celebration high in the sky.

Festive Options for Grown-Ups

The London Eye is also catering to adult celebrations this season. Visitors can opt for Festive Flights accompanied by Moët & Chandon, enjoy a Christmas-themed afternoon tea in the sky, or simply take in the wintry tales and dazzling city views from other festively decorated pods.

This innovative festive installation marks a new chapter for the capital's seasonal attractions, offering a truly elevated Christmas experience. With its limited run from December 1st to 24th, tickets are expected to be in high demand for those seeking a memorable and unique way to celebrate the holidays.
