Two London Underground lines suspended amid rush hour chaos

Two London Underground lines are fully suspended this morning, causing widespread disruption for commuters during the morning rush hour. The Waterloo and City line is not running at all due to the unavailability of control room staff, while Piccadilly line services are halted between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge because of a signal failure.

Waterloo and City line suspended due to staffing issue

Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that the Waterloo and City line has no service because control room staff are unavailable. Commuters who normally use this line are being encouraged to use local bus routes instead. The suspension affects all stations on the line, which runs between Waterloo and Bank.

On the Piccadilly line, services are stopped between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge. TfL is advising passengers in this area to use the Metropolitan line or local bus routes as an alternative. The disruption is caused by a signal failure, according to the transport authority.

Severe delays on Central and Mildmay lines

The Central line is experiencing severe delays on two separate sections. Delays are reported between North Acton and West Ruislip due to an earlier faulty train at Perivale. Additionally, there are severe delays between Hainault and Leytonstone following a late finish of engineering work.

London Overground passengers are also affected, with severe delays on the Mildmay line due to a signal failure at Stratford. TfL is advising passengers to avoid the Mildmay line where possible.

Tickets accepted on alternative routes

TfL is accepting tickets on London Buses, Elizabeth Line, Chiltern Railways and Great Western Railway services via any reasonable routes. This applies to passengers affected by the current disruptions across the network.

In addition to the Underground issues, London Tramlink has no service between Arena and Elmers End all day due to a track fault at Lebanon Road. This adds to the travel difficulties facing commuters across the capital this morning.

The disruptions come as TfL continues to manage the network through ongoing staffing and technical challenges. Commuters are advised to check live travel updates before setting off and to allow extra time for their journeys.
