Greggs and easyJet Launch Five Sausage Roll Dips for Newcastle

In a unique culinary partnership, Greggs and easyJet have joined forces to launch five new sausage roll dips, each inspired by beloved holiday destinations. This collaboration celebrates the airline's new base at Newcastle International Airport, which officially opened this week.

A Taste of Global Flavors at 30,000 Feet

The limited-edition dipping sauces offer a flavorful journey around the world, designed to complement Greggs' iconic sausage rolls. Italy's affogato dip features deep roasted coffee, cocoa, and vanilla, while France's tarte tatin blend combines caramelised apple, warm cinnamon, and a hint of thyme.

Bold and Adventurous Options

For more adventurous palates, the lineup includes a Tunisia-inspired harissa ketchup with rich tomato, sweet date, and tangy pomegranate. Spain's sangria dip bursts with red wine, zesty orange, and cranberry notes. Completing the collection is a Turkish-style kebab sauce featuring aromatic lemon, vinegar, and smoky paprika.

Celebrating Newcastle's New Aviation Hub

The partnership marks the launch of easyJet's 11th UK base at Newcastle International Airport, which will host three aircraft and support approximately 1,200 jobs. This includes 140 direct positions for pilots and cabin crew members.

Garry Wilson, CEO of easyJet's holidays business, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: "We're thrilled to launch our new Newcastle base, driven by strong regional demand for our flights and package holidays. Partnering with Greggs, a true Geordie icon and one of the city's most famous exports, felt like the perfect way to celebrate our arrival."

Community Engagement Across Newcastle

Throughout the week, easyJet cabin crew have been serving samples at prominent Newcastle landmarks including the Tyne Bridge, St James' Park, and the Angel of the North. Holidaymakers flying from Newcastle International Airport on Monday received complimentary sausage rolls with the destination-inspired dips.

Local residents can obtain the free limited-edition sauces with sausage rolls at cabin crew pop-up services in Newcastle city centre locations such as Grey's Monument, St James' Park, and the Quayside.

Expanding Travel Opportunities from the North East

The new base provides over 800,000 seats for holiday customers planning getaways, representing a significant expansion of travel options from the region. More than 80 weekly flights are now available to 22 leisure destinations across Europe and North Africa—an 85% increase compared to last summer.

New Routes and Enhanced Connectivity

New routes from Newcastle include Antalya, Corfu, Dalaman, Enfidha, Faro, Lisbon, Malta, Prague, Reus, Rhodes, Rome, Sharm El Sheikh, Nice, and Tenerife. This expansion follows easyJet's recent base openings at London Southend Airport and Birmingham.

Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs, commented: "As a business born and bred in the North East, we're excited to partner with easyJet to mark their new Newcastle base launch. This represents a fantastic opportunity for the local community, and we can't think of a better celebration than with our signature Sausage Roll."

Wilson added that offering sausage rolls onboard and in local streets serves as easyJet's way of thanking the North East community while making travel from their local airport more accessible and affordable.
