Iconic City Dining Spot Coq d'Argent Announces 2027 Rooftop Relocation
One of the Square Mile's most celebrated and enduring restaurants is preparing for a significant move. Coq d'Argent, the acclaimed French restaurant perched atop the No 1 Poultry building near Bank station, will relocate to a new rooftop location within the City of London in early 2027. This decision comes as a direct result of court-approved redevelopment plans for its current home, forcing the establishment to seek alternative premises.
A Legacy of Award-Winning Hospitality
Since its grand opening in 1998, Coq d'Argent has maintained an impeccable reputation as a premier lunch destination and social hub for City professionals and visitors alike. The restaurant, operated by The Evolv Collection, recently reinforced its status by winning City AM's Toast the City award for Best Rooftop just last year. For nearly three decades, it has been synonymous with reliable, high-quality dining and vibrant atmosphere.
Martin Williams, CEO of The Evolv Collection, issued a formal statement confirming the relocation. "Following the court's decision to permit the redevelopment of No 1 Poultry, we can confirm that Coq d'Argent will be relocating in 2027 to a new rooftop location within the square mile," he said. Williams emphasized the restaurant's iconic status and its cherished place within the collection, noting the deep respect for the heritage of founder Sir Terence Conran.
Future Plans and Continued Success
The transition plan is already in motion. Williams confirmed that a new rooftop venue has been secured, though the exact location will be announced at a later date. The restaurant is scheduled to reopen in its new home in early 2027. "Last year was a record year for Coq d'Argent and we are excited that 2026 will build upon 'The Coq's' recent successes and acclaim, to deliver the best summer ever on our roof terrace and our biggest Christmas season," Williams added, highlighting the establishment's ongoing momentum.
Coq d'Argent has long been praised for its unique ambiance. In a 2025 City AM article, Life&Style Editor Steve Dinneen vividly described the terrace as "where you want to be in a heatwave," with an atmosphere feeling "more like Los Angeles than central London." He noted the lush greenery, shaded parasols, and diverse clientele enjoying drinks to the sounds of lounge jazz.
Culinary Excellence and Signature Dishes
The restaurant's menu is a testament to classic French cuisine, featuring beloved dishes such as:
- Steak tartare
- Escargots
- Premium cuts of meat
- Fresh seafood selections
This culinary focus has been a cornerstone of its appeal, attracting diners seeking an authentic and refined gastronomic experience high above the bustling City streets.
The relocation marks the end of an era for the No 1 Poultry site but promises a new chapter for Coq d'Argent. As one of London's most iconic rooftop destinations, its move is poised to be a significant event in the City's dining scene, with loyal patrons and new visitors eagerly awaiting the unveiling of its future home.
