London's £1,000 Champagne Train to Cheltenham Offers Luxury Race Day Experience
On Friday the 13th, London racegoers defied superstition by indulging in a lavish journey to the Cheltenham Gold Cup meeting, spending £1,000 per person for a luxury train experience aboard the Northern Belle. This 1930s Pullman-style train, renowned for its opulence, transported passengers from Paddington Station in style, with a red carpet laid across the platform and gleaming umber and cream carriages awaiting their arrival.
Champagne and Fine Dining on the Rails
Passengers sipped Krug champagne throughout the trip, enjoying a three-course brunch served with caviar as the train made its way to Worcestershire. Upon arrival, a vintage steam train provided a nostalgic transfer to the Cheltenham racecourse, adding to the grandeur of the day. In the evening, the return journey featured a slap-up five-course banquet, accompanied by more champagne and live music serenading diners.
A Northern Belle spokesman remarked, "The favourite, Jukebox Man, might not have played the right tune, but win or lose at the bookies, our passengers were all on song." This sentiment highlights the train's focus on delivering an unforgettable experience, regardless of racing outcomes.
Global Acclaim and Future Excursions
The Northern Belle has earned international recognition, voted one of the top five trains in the world by readers of Condé Nast Traveller magazine. Actor Bill Nighy praised it on Channel 5 as "the Grand Dame of luxury travel." Operating from stations across Britain, the train offers upcoming trips, including journeys from Manchester, Crewe, and Birmingham to Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot in June, a London to Glorious Goodwood excursion in July, and a Christmas Lunch trip from London in December.
This luxury service caters to high-end travelers seeking unique and extravagant experiences, blending historic charm with modern indulgence for events like the Cheltenham Gold Cup.
