General Mills is recalling nearly 736,000 Pillsbury frozen bread rolls over concerns they may contain glass, according to a US Food and Drug Administration notice issued this week.
Recall scope and products
The recall covers two frozen bread roll products: Hard Roll Dough and Kaiser Roll Dough. The Hard Roll Dough recall involves 3,080 cases, each containing 180 rolls, totaling 554,400 rolls. The Kaiser Roll Dough recall includes 1,260 cases with 144 rolls per case, totaling 181,440 rolls. The FDA notice states the products may contain “potential foreign material (glass)”.
Distribution and affected states
The recalled rolls were distributed to 19 states: Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
The recall was initiated by General Mills on 19 June. According to the company’s website, these frozen dough products are intended primarily for commercial food service customers, not individual consumers. “Freshly baked, scratch-like bread is possible without increasing labor costs. Simply thaw, proof, and bake pre-portioned dough to make your desired quantity of rolls,” the product description for the Pillsbury Kaiser roll reads.
Company background and other recalls
General Mills is the parent company of several well-known brands, including Betty Crocker, Cheerios, Lucky Charms and Nature Valley. The Hard Roll Dough recall is under number H-1154-2026, with cases marked by a “better if used by” date of 12 October 2026. Kaiser Roll Dough is identified by recall number H-1155-2026, with a use-by date of 13 October 2026.
This is not the first food recall due to glass contamination this year. In March, millions of pounds of frozen chicken and pork fried rice, ramen and shu mai products made by Ajinomoto Frozen Foods were recalled over potential glass contamination, affecting brands including Trader Joe’s, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, Kroger and Ajinomoto. In May, supermarket chain Aldi recalled its vanilla crème brûlée dessert sold in glass jars due to possible glass contamination in seven states, including New York and Florida.
