British Transport Police (BTP) have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious assault at Liverpool Street Underground station that left a man fighting for his life in hospital.
The arrest was made on the evening of Monday, August 31, in East London, and the suspect remains in police custody. The attack occurred on Sunday, August 30, when officers were called to reports of a serious assault at the station at 10.51pm.
Victim found with life-threatening head injuries
Paramedics attended the scene and found a man in his 30s on the Central line platform suffering from life-threatening head injuries. He received emergency treatment at the station before being taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn of BTP said: “This is a key step in our investigation, which continues to progress at pace. Based on our enquiries to date, we are not seeking to identify anyone else in connection with this incident. Our thoughts remain the victim and his family at this difficult time. They are being supported by specialist officers.”
Appeal for witnesses
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Detective Superintendent Blackburn added: “We are still keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to police. If you were on the Central line platforms between 10.30pm and 11pm and have information, please come forward.”

The investigation is ongoing, and police have confirmed they are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the incident. The victim continues to receive hospital treatment for his injuries.
