The first weekend of 2026 is set to bring significant disruption to London's transport network, with four key Transport for London (TfL) lines partially closed for essential engineering work. This follows a period of altered timetables and station shutdowns over the festive period.
Immediate Weekend Disruptions
From Friday night, January 2, through to Monday morning, January 5, passengers will need to plan alternative routes. The Piccadilly line is particularly affected, with multiple sections out of service. There will be no Friday Night Tube between King's Cross St Pancras and Cockfosters, and no service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge all weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, the stretch between Wood Green and Cockfosters will also be closed.
On the London Overground, the Mildmay line faces a full suspension between Camden Road and both Richmond and Shepherd's Bush due to ongoing track replacement. The Elizabeth line will be halted overnight until midday on Sunday between West Drayton and Maidenhead. Furthermore, the DLR will not run between Tower Gateway and Shadwell on Saturday and Sunday.
Full List of January 2026 Closures
The disruption extends far beyond the first weekend. Throughout January, a series of planned works will impact almost every part of the TfL network. A major track replacement project will affect services between Brondesbury Park and Willesden Junction.
Other significant closures include:
- Central line: No service between Bethnal Green and Epping, and Bethnal Green and Hainault on January 31-February 1.
- Circle, District, and Hammersmith & City lines: Major closures across the weekend of January 24-25, including a full suspension of the Hammersmith & City line.
- Jubilee line: Several weekend and Night Tube disruptions, including no service between Green Park and Stratford on January 10-11.
- London Overground: The Mildmay, Suffragette, Weaver, and Windrush lines all face various closures and service alterations on multiple dates.
Advice for Passengers
TfL advises that while these works are underway, bus services are running as normal and can provide alternatives. On some routes, rail replacement buses will be in operation. For the Piccadilly line closure between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge, passengers are encouraged to use the Metropolitan line instead.
Passengers making journeys later in January are urged to use the TfL Journey Planner ahead of travel to manage the expected disruption. Minor changes are also scheduled for the DLR, Elizabeth line, and London Trams network throughout the month.
