Casualty's Flynn vs Colonel Bard ends in shocking twist as Bard cleared
Casualty: Bard cleared, Flynn's world turned upside down

Flynn Byron's (Olly Rix) world was turned upside down after an unexpected development in the investigation into Colonel Jack Bard (Mark Womack) on Casualty. The Clinical Lead suspected Bard of beating and hazing soldiers, but Bard was cleared of all charges, leading to a violent confrontation.

Flynn's suspicions and the soldiers' ordeal

Flynn's suspicions were first piqued when a soldier was admitted after an explosion on the Wyvern Hill Estate with injuries unrelated to the blast. Private Rory Dickson (Gwïon Morris Jones) later arrived at the ED when a military training exercise went awry. Flynn desperately tried to get Rory to reveal what Bard was subjecting the soldiers to. At first, Rory stayed silent, but after his best friend Kev was seriously injured in the training exercise, he decided to report Bard—until Kev tragically died.

Bard suspended and then cleared

Flynn reported Bard, leading to his suspension pending further investigation. Bard showed up at the hospital as Flynn smirked, making it clear he was the one who reported him. Bard warned Flynn to tread carefully. In subsequent scenes, Flynn received a call informing him that Bard had 'nothing to answer for.' 'He did a hatchet job on me,' Flynn shared with Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless), revealing that Bard made him out to be a 'bitter ex soldier with an axe to grind.'

Flynn's determination and the pub confrontation

Determined to ensure Bard paid, Flynn visited the pub where the soldiers were drinking to warn them about the colonel's danger. Bard arrived seconds later and instructed Flynn to come outside. Bard spoke about Adam, a friend of Flynn's who trained with him in the army when Flynn was just 17. Adam was treated horrendously by Bard and subsequently took his own life, which is why Flynn is so determined to stop Bard from causing more torment. In a bid to antagonize Flynn, Bard said disgusting things about Adam. Flynn retaliated with a punch, but Bard got the upper hand, knocking him to the floor.

What's next for Flynn?

Flynn reeled, horrified at the prospect of Bard getting away with his crimes. The question remains whether Bard will face justice. More trauma awaits Flynn in next week's Lethal Legacy finale when a patient is held at gunpoint. Casualty airs Saturday at 8:20pm on BBC One or streams from 6am on BBC iPlayer.
