Transport for London (TfL) has announced a series of closures and station restrictions for the final weekend of August, as millions of people are expected to attend All Points East festival and Notting Hill Carnival. The events will place significant pressure on the capital's transport network, with crowds heading to Victoria Park in the east and the parade route in the west.
While most TfL services will run without major disruption, several Tube stations will be shut early or entirely on Monday, August 31, ahead of the carnival. A section of the Northern line will be closed between Islington and Barnet, including during Night Tube, due to track work. Network Rail works will also shut the route between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction, with rail replacement buses operating.

District line: Until November, westbound trains will not call at Barons Court station due to planned maintenance.
Northern line: From Friday, August 28 to Saturday, August 29, there will be no service between Camden Town and High Barnet during Friday Night Tube due to track work. From Saturday, August 29 to Monday, August 31, no service will run between Archway and High Barnet/Mill Hill East, including during Saturday Night Tube, also due to track work.
Piccadilly line: Until November, westbound trains will not call at Barons Court station due to planned maintenance.
Weaver line: From Monday, August 31 to Thursday, September 3, there will be no service between Hackney Downs and Enfield Town/Cheshunt after 10.45pm due to Network Rail maintenance work.
Windrush line: From Saturday, August 29 to Monday, August 31, no service will run between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction due to Network Rail maintenance work. Rail replacement buses will operate between Canada Water and Clapham Junction.
DLR: On Sunday, August 30 and Monday, August 31, there will be no service between Tower Gateway and Shadwell due to third party works.
London Trams: Until Sunday, August 30, no service will run between Reeves Corner and East Croydon due to track work. On Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30, no service will operate between Arena and Elmers End before 8am and after 6.45pm on Saturday, and all-day Sunday.
Notting Hill Carnival travel advice
TfL is encouraging carnival attendees to get off at Paddington station and walk the remaining 20-minute distance due to crowd concerns. Many Tube stations nearer the festivities will be queued out or shut entirely.
The parade route spans from North Kensington to Stanley Crescent, and from Westbourne Green to Ladbroke Grove. Several stations within that area will be subject to restrictions:
- Ladbroke Grove: Closed all day
- Latimer Road: May close for short periods throughout the day, station shuts at 11pm
- Notting Hill Gate: No entry from 11am - 6pm, District/Circle lines will not stop
- Westbourne Park: No entry from 11am
- Holland Park: No entry from 11am - 3pm, station shuts at 3pm
- Queensway: No entry from 11am - 6pm, station is exit only
- Royal Oak: No entry from 11am - 6pm, station shuts at 6pm
- Shepherds Bush: No ticket facilities or down escalator after 4pm, access to platforms via 71 steps
- Kensal Green: Queues expected outside station all day
- Kensal Rise: Chamberlayne Road entrance closes at 6pm, queueing system thereafter
Bus diversions and special routes
Due to road closures, day and night buses will be diverted away from the Carnival area. The affected routes are:
Daytime: 7, 18, 23, 27, 28, 31, 36, 52, 70, 228, 295, 302, 316, 328
Night-time: N7, N27, N28, N31
However, a few special limited-stop bus routes are in place across the weekend:
- 148X to Victoria and Vauxhall: Operating between Notting Hill Gate and Victoria from 10am - 5pm, then Notting Hill Gate and Vauxhall until 10pm. Calls at Shepherd’s Bush, Notting Hill Gate, Marble Arch and Victoria.
- 7X to East Acton: Serves all route 7 stops between Oxford Circus and Paddington and Du Cane Road and East Acton. Also calls at Lancaster Gate and Notting Hill Gate.
- 36X to Harrow Road: Runs between Peckham and Harrow Road in one direction only.
- 18X to Stonebridge Park: Runs between Warren Street and Stonebridge Park from 12:00 to 22:00.
- 23X to Victoria: Runs between Harrow Road, Prince of Wales and Victoria for four trips on Monday afternoon only.
- 6X to Harrow Road: Runs between Peckham and Harrow Road in one direction only. Calls at all stops between Peckham and Vauxhall, then running non-stop to Harrow Road.
