The Piccadilly line will be closed for three full days this week, from Tuesday August 25 to Thursday August 27, as Transport for London (TfL) continues preparatory work for its new fleet of trains. The closure affects the stretch between Cockfosters and Uxbridge, covering the majority of the line and the entire central London section. However, services will still run between Heathrow and Acton Town.
Why is the Piccadilly line closed?
The closure is part of TfL's ongoing upgrades to prepare the line for a new fleet of trains, which will feature walk-through carriages, air conditioning, improved digital displays, and better step-free access. The work also includes upgrading rail tracks, installing new CCTV at platforms, and modifying signalling systems.
According to TfL, the closures will continue intermittently until mid-2027, with the new fleet expected to enter service between December 2026 and June 2027. Confirmed closure dates are currently available up to the end of November.

Commuters who rely on the Piccadilly line are advised to plan alternative routes for the affected dates. The closures are expected to continue intermittently until the new trains are fully in service by mid-2027.
