Londoners face major disruption this weekend as the entire Piccadilly line is shut for planned engineering works by Transport for London. The closure runs from around 4am on Saturday, August 1, until the end of service on Sunday, August 2, with no trains operating between Cockfosters and Heathrow. A reduced service will continue between Acton Town and Uxbridge.
Overnight closures and station changes
The entire Piccadilly line will also be closed overnight between 12.30am and 4.30am on both weekend days. Passengers are reminded that westbound trains are not stopping at Barons Court due to ongoing upgrades. Finsbury Park station will remain closed throughout the weekend. TfL urges passengers to check before they travel and allow extra time for journeys.
Context: rare weekend without disruption
The closures come after a rare weekend without any major planned disruption across the TfL network. Earlier this week, TfL faced criticism over fare evasion, which cost the network £165 million in one year—almost wiping out the £168 million in extra revenue from fare rises on buses and Tubes. Ameer Kotecha from the Centre for Government Reform said passengers were told the price rise was necessary to improve the network.
