Commuters across the capital are enduring a second consecutive day of significant disruption on Tuesday, 6th January 2026, following a fresh wave of severe delays affecting multiple London Underground lines and the Elizabeth Line.
Widespread Disruption Across Key Routes
The morning rush hour was thrown into chaos with several major arteries of London's transport network experiencing severe problems. The Elizabeth Line, affectionately known as the Lizzie Line, is suffering severe delays on two core sections. Passengers travelling between Heathrow Terminal 4, Heathrow Terminal 5 and Abbey Wood, as well as between Reading and Abbey Wood, are facing lengthy hold-ups. Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed the issue is due to an electrical fault on the line, though a good service is running on the remainder of the route.
Elsewhere on the Tube network, the Circle and District lines are also grappling with severe delays. This has been caused by an earlier faulty train at South Kensington station, which has created a ripple effect of disruption throughout the morning.
Further Engineering Woes on Jubilee and Metropolitan Lines
The travel misery extends beyond these lines. On the Jubilee line, severe delays are in place because engineering work finished later than planned. Similarly, the Metropolitan Line is experiencing severe delays between Wembley Park and Aldgate, also attributed to the late completion of overnight engineering works.
In a small piece of better news for some travellers, the Bakerloo, Central and the rest of the Metropolitan line are only facing minor delays. The Bakerloo line is affected by train cancellations, while the minor delays on the Central line between White City and West Ruislip are due to a faulty train at Perivale.
Ticket Acceptance and Travel Advice
To help mitigate the impact on stranded passengers, TfL has announced that ticket acceptance is in place on several alternative services. Tickets for the Circle, District and Elizabeth lines are being accepted on local bus routes and other London Underground lines while engineers work to resolve the various faults.
Transport for London is advising all passengers to check for live updates before they travel. The latest status updates for every line are available on the official TfL website. Commuters are urged to allow considerable extra time for their journeys and to consider alternative routes where possible during this period of extensive disruption.
