Londoners and visitors should brace for significant travel disruptions this weekend, as multiple tube lines and train services face closures from February 28 to March 1, 2026. Transport for London (TfL) has announced severe interruptions that will impact key routes across the capital, affecting journeys in west, central, and east London. Whether you're heading to cultural events, dining out, or exploring the city, planning ahead is essential to avoid delays.
Major Tube Line Closures on Saturday and Sunday
Several Underground lines will experience full or partial shutdowns over the weekend. The Bakerloo line will have no service between Queens Park and Harrow & Wealdstone on both days. Concurrently, the Lioness line (Overground) will be fully closed between Euston and Watford Junction, though London Northwestern and Southern rail services will continue to operate as alternatives.
The Circle line will see no trains running between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria, while the District line will be suspended between Earls Court and Kensington (Olympia) or Whitechapel. Notably, eastbound District line trains will skip Barons Court station until June; passengers are advised to travel one stop west to Hammersmith and then return eastbound to bypass this closure.
Additionally, the Hammersmith & City line will have no service between Whitechapel and Barking. Travelers can use the District line for connections east of Whitechapel during this period.
Sunday-Specific Service Changes
On Sunday, March 1, further disruptions will affect other transport services. The Elizabeth line will have no service between Abbey Wood or Stratford and Ealing Broadway until 7:40 AM, followed by a suspension between Abbey Wood or Stratford and Paddington from 7:40 AM to 11 AM.
The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will experience closures between Shadwell and Tower Gateway, with Cutty Sark station remaining closed until spring. Overground services will also be impacted: the Windrush line will have no trains between New Cross Gate and West Croydon or Crystal Palace, and between Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction or Battersea Park. The Suffragette line will operate a reduced service between Woodgrange Park and Barking Riverside after 7:40 AM, with no trains before that time.
Other notable changes include the Piccadilly line, where eastbound trains will not stop at Barons Court until June, and Holloway Road station will be closed from 6:10 PM to 7:40 PM on Sunday due to a football match, with no eastbound trains between 3 PM and 4:15 PM. The Waterloo and City line, as usual, will be closed on weekends.
Planning Your Journey
With these extensive closures, commuters and tourists are urged to check TfL's latest updates before traveling. Alternative routes, such as buses or other rail services, may be necessary to navigate the city efficiently. Stay informed to minimize inconvenience and ensure a smooth weekend in London.
