Londoners and visitors face significant travel disruption this weekend as multiple key transport lines will be completely suspended for essential engineering works. Transport for London (TfL) has announced a series of closures that will impact journeys across the capital from Friday evening through Sunday.
Which Lines Are Affected?
District Line passengers will need to find alternative routes as there will be no service between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway throughout the entire weekend. Additionally, the line will be suspended between Earl's Court and Kensington (Olympia), creating significant gaps in west London connectivity.
London Overground services face multiple disruptions with no trains running between:
- Highbury & Islington and New Cross/Clapham Junction
 - Romford and Upminster
 - Surrey Quays and Clapham Junction

Elizabeth Line Partial Closure
The newly popular Elizabeth Line won't be spared from the weekend works. Services will be completely suspended between Paddington and Abbey Wood, though trains will continue to operate from Paddington to Heathrow and Reading. This partial closure is likely to affect thousands of passengers who rely on this cross-London route.
Other Transport Disruptions
The travel woes extend beyond the Tube network. The DLR (Docklands Light Railway) will see no service between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/West India Quay, potentially causing headaches for those travelling to and from Canary Wharf and the City.
Meanwhile, Southern Railway services will be disrupted between Clapham Junction and Milton Keynes Central, affecting commuters in south-west London and beyond.
Why The Widespread Closures?
TfL has confirmed that these extensive closures are necessary for essential track replacement, signalling upgrades, and station improvement works. While disruptive in the short term, these engineering projects aim to deliver more reliable and efficient services in the long run.
A TfL spokesperson emphasised: "We carefully schedule these essential works to minimise disruption, but some weekend closures are unavoidable to maintain and upgrade our aging infrastructure."
Planning Your Weekend Travel
Passengers are strongly advised to:
- Check the TfL website or app before travelling
 - Allow extra journey time
 - Consider alternative routes including buses
 - Look into Santander Cycles for shorter journeys

With replacement bus services operating on some routes but likely to be busy, Londoners might want to reconsider non-essential travel or explore walking routes where possible.
