London's Superloop Network Set for Major Expansion

Transport for London has unveiled an ambitious draft business plan that could significantly expand the capital's express bus network. According to the proposal, four new Superloop routes might be operational by 2027, bringing faster connections to several outer London areas that currently lack rapid transit options.

Confirmed and Proposed Routes

The SL12 route between Gants Hill and Ferry Lane in Rainham via Romford is the only fully confirmed addition, with service scheduled to begin on April 4, 2026. This route will parallel existing bus services, including route 66 between Gants Hill and Romford, and partially follow routes 165 and 372 between Elm Park and Rainham.

Three additional routes remain in the proposal stage but show strong potential for implementation. The SL13 would connect Ealing Broadway and Hendon War Memorial via Neasden, creating important links with existing Superloop routes SL10 at Hendon and SL8 at Ealing Broadway.

For east and north London, the SL14 is proposed to run between Stratford and Chingford via Leyton and Walthamstow, potentially paralleling routes 158, 357, and 97. Meanwhile, the SL15 would serve south London, connecting Clapham Junction and Eltham via Catford, with a planned connection to the SL4 at Baring Road.

Strategic Importance of Superloop Expansion

These proposed routes represent a strategic effort to improve transportation connectivity in London's outer boroughs. The Superloop system, designed as an express network connecting peripheral areas, addresses growing demand for efficient transit options beyond central London.

The expansion follows the successful January launch of the SL11 route in southeast London, demonstrating TfL's commitment to enhancing the capital's bus network. When implemented, these new routes would provide faster travel times and better integration with existing transport infrastructure.
