Emmerdale and Coronation Street off air tonight for Carabao Cup
Emmerdale and Corrie off air tonight for Carabao Cup

Emmerdale and Coronation Street have both been pulled from ITV's schedule again this evening (Tuesday, August 25) to make way for live football coverage. The EFL Carabao Cup second round match between Nottingham Forest and Leeds United will occupy the usual soap slots, with coverage starting at 7.30pm and kick-off at 8pm. It is the only second-round tie featuring two Premier League clubs.

Soap storylines disrupted by football scheduling

The schedule shake-up interrupts major storylines on both shows. In Emmerdale, the dramatic wedding week of Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) continues. Last night's episode saw Caleb Miligan (William Ash) announce his revenge on Joe, who believed his happy ending was within reach. Meanwhile, on Coronation Street, Ben Driscoll's (Aaron McCusker) craft beer event created tension with his son Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike), while Todd Grimshaw's (Gareth Pierce) actions drew criticism from his family.

When do Emmerdale and Coronation Street return?

Both soaps return tomorrow (Wednesday, August 26) in their usual time slots, with episodes also available on YouTube and ITVX from 7am. Emmerdale airs at 8pm, where Dawn faces a big decision about whether to run away with Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) and the children, or whether Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) has convinced her to stay with Joe. Coronation Street follows at 8.30pm, where Lucy Parkinson (Anya Dewin) makes her feelings for Tim and Sally Metcalfe (Joe Duttine and Sally Dynevor) clear, and Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) is alarmed to find blood on Kit Green's (Jacob Roberts) clothes.
