DLR Faces Six-Day Service Suspension Without Replacement Buses

Transport for London (TfL) has announced a significant six-day closure of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) on two key branches, with no replacement bus services provided. The shutdown is scheduled from Friday, April 3, to Wednesday, April 8, affecting services between Bank and West India Quay, as well as between Tower Gateway and Poplar.

Essential Works and Alternative Travel Options

During this period, essential maintenance and improvement works will be conducted, including the replacement of track rails and noise barriers. Additionally, TfL will collaborate with Midgard on the construction of a new 15-storey hotel and residential development adjacent to Tower Gateway station. These efforts aim to minimize future closures and enhance infrastructure.

TfL advises customers to utilize alternative routes to navigate the disruption. Recommended options include using services from Canary Wharf or Stratford, or switching to Tube and bus services from Bank and Tower Gateway stations, accessible via Tower Hill.

Impacted Stations and Busier Days Expected

The closure will result in no service at Shadwell, Limehouse, Westferry, and West India Quay stations. Local bus services available in these areas include routes 15, 115, 135, D3, D6, and D7. For travelers from Lewisham, the best route to Central London involves changing at Canary Wharf for the Jubilee Line.

From Woolwich Arsenal and Beckton, passengers are advised to change at Canning Town or Stratford for the Jubilee Line, or at Custom House for the Elizabeth Line. TfL anticipates that services will be particularly busy on April 7 and 8, urging customers to plan their travel accordingly, especially during the Easter weekend.

Travelers are encouraged to check their plans in advance and stay updated with TfL announcements to manage the disruptions effectively.
