A woman in her 50s has tragically died after being struck by a lorry in Islington on Monday morning. The fatal road traffic collision has left the local community in shock.
Emergency Services Rush to the Scene
The incident occurred on Hornsey Rise, near Crouch End, at approximately 11am on Monday, 17 November. The Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, and a doctor were all dispatched to the location following emergency calls.
In a significant escalation of the response, London's Air Ambulance was deployed, landing in the nearby Elthorne Park to assist paramedics and firefighters at the scene. Despite the extensive medical efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced dead a short time later.
Ongoing Investigation and Road Closures
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the woman's next of kin have been informed and are currently being supported by specialist officers. The woman has not yet been named publicly.
The police also stated that no arrests have been made in connection with the collision, and an investigation into the precise circumstances is ongoing. The aftermath of the crash caused significant disruption, with Hornsey Rise remaining closed into the evening. This led to bus route diversions, affecting services 41 and 91.
This tragic event in North London happened just hours after a separate, serious incident where a woman was knocked over by a bus in Greenwich. She remains in a critical condition in hospital.
