Two young men have died following a three-car collision on an A-road in Surrey overnight. The incident occurred on Epsom Road in East Clandon, near Guildford, shortly after 11pm on August 21.
Emergency services attending the scene found that a white, a black, and a grey Seat Leon had collided on the A246 near Clandon Wood Nature Reserve. The driver of the white Seat, a man in his late teens, and his passenger, a man aged in his early 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Arrests made in connection with fatal crash
Surrey Police have confirmed that the next of kin of both victims have been informed. A 22-year-old man from Woking, a 21-year-old woman from Guildford, and a 19-year-old man from Guildford have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They remain in police custody.
The Epsom Road A246 remains closed while an investigation is carried out. Surrey Police have appealed for anyone who was in the area between 10.50pm and 11pm on the night of the crash, or who has dashcam footage, to contact them.
Other fatal incidents across the UK
The collision in Surrey was one of several tragedies on UK roads overnight. On the A66 in Cleveland, North Yorkshire, a crash following a police pursuit resulted in multiple fatalities, marking a dark night for emergency services. The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), has launched an investigation into that incident because a pursuit was involved.
In Kent, a stretch of the M20 was closed between junctions J4 and J6 following another overnight crash. The motorway remained shut into the afternoon after a serious collision at approximately 3.20am. Authorities have not yet revealed the number of casualties or their conditions.
Investigation ongoing
Surrey Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the fatal crash in East Clandon. The road closure is expected to remain in place while forensic examinations are conducted. The public has been urged to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.
