The family of Lexi Catlin, a 15-year-old girl who tragically died in a motorbike collision in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, has paid an emotional tribute to her, describing her as a "kind, caring, funny, and outgoing" individual whose smile "lit up every room." The incident occurred on the A355 at approximately 9:30 PM on Friday, March 13, and has left the family "truly heartbroken," with a "massive Lexi-shaped hole" in their lives that they say will never be the same again.
Details of the Tragic Incident
Lexi was a pillion passenger on a motorbike involved in a crash with two cars. The motorbike rider, a 16-year-old boy from Beaconsfield, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Additionally, two other teenagers, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl from High Wycombe, who were also on a motorbike, were held on suspicion of the same offense. Thames Valley Police have confirmed that a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as a police vehicle was "in the vicinity" at the time of the crash. The police vehicle was driving on the opposite carriageway and was not using blue lights, according to the force.
Family's Emotional Statement
In a statement released by Thames Valley Police, Lexi's family expressed their profound grief, noting that Saturday, March 21, would have been her 16th birthday. They described Lexi as someone who loved being out with friends, having fun, and making the most of every day. "Lexi had so, so much to offer this world, with so many dreams and aspirations that we will now never get to see her fulfil," the family said. "Words cannot express how much Lexi was loved and adored by her family, who miss her so much already." The family is holding a private event to mark what would have been her special birthday and has requested privacy during this difficult time. They ended their tribute with a heartfelt message: "Fly high, Lexi Lulu — you'll be the brightest star in the sky. All our love, always."
Investigation and Community Impact
The crash has sparked an ongoing investigation by Thames Valley Police, with the involvement of the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to the proximity of a police vehicle. This tragic event highlights the dangers associated with motorbike accidents, particularly involving young riders, and has deeply affected the local community in Beaconsfield and surrounding areas. The family's tribute underscores the devastating loss of a vibrant young life, leaving a void that will be felt by all who knew her.
