Police are urgently appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision in South London left a pedestrian with life-changing injuries.
Details of the South Croydon Incident
A 41-year-old man was struck by a car on Brighton Road in South Croydon, near its junction with St Augustine's Avenue. The incident occurred just after 9pm on Monday, January 5.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and the victim was transported to hospital, where he remains receiving treatment for a serious head injury.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The driver of the vehicle involved stopped at the location and was subsequently arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police. The arrest was made on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The individual has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge, from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, is leading the probe. He stated: “Our investigation is ongoing and we are in the process of collecting dash cam footage, CCTV and any other information that will help us with our enquiries.”
Appeal for Information from the Public
DS Groombridge has made a direct appeal to the public for assistance. “I am appealing for anyone who saw the incident but has not yet spoken to police to contact us as soon as possible,” he said.
Authorities are particularly keen to hear from motorists or residents who may have captured relevant footage on dash cams or private CCTV systems.
