A man in his 20s has died following a late-night collision between two cars on a North London high street. The incident occurred at the junction of Whetstone High Road and Chandos Avenue in Barnet at approximately 11:30 PM on May 14.
Details of the Collision
A Volkswagen Golf and a Nissan Qashqai collided, resulting in the front passenger of the Volkswagen succumbing to his injuries at the scene. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the death in a statement this afternoon, though the victim has not yet been publicly identified.
Two rear passengers of the Volkswagen, a man and a woman both in their 20s, were transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening and life-changing injuries. They remain in stable condition.
Arrest and Hospitalizations
The 20-year-old driver of the Volkswagen was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Nissan, a woman in her 20s, was also treated at the hospital and has since been discharged.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detectives from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Detective Inspector John Millward stated: "Our thoughts remain with the families and friends of all the young people involved in this tragic collision at this extremely difficult time. As we try to build up a full picture of the incident, we are appealing to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or any relevant information - particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage."
