Police have closed a major London motorway near Heathrow Airport overnight due to a police incident. The M4 is closed in both directions between junction 3 for Harrow and junction 4 for Heathrow Airport, National Highways announced at 1:35am on Wednesday (September 9).
National Highways announces closure
In a post on X, National Highways said: "M4 in both directions in Greater London between J3 (Harrow) & J4 Heathrow Airport. Road closed due to a police led Incident." The announcement came at 1:35am, according to the post.
Motorists queue on motorway
CCTV images show motorists queuing up on the motorway as a result of the closure. The incident comes amid chaos at UK airports as hundreds of thousands of passengers were stranded by an air traffic control glitch, which forced officials to lift Heathrow's night curfew.
