M25 Closure: 60-Minute Delays After Police Shut Carriageway
M25 closed near Egham causing 60-minute delays

Drivers on the M25 are facing severe disruption this afternoon after a police incident forced the closure of a key section of the motorway.

Major Motorway Shutdown

The anti-clockwise carriageway is currently shut between Junction 13 for Staines and Junction 12, close to the town of Egham. The closure was implemented to allow emergency services to deal with an ongoing incident.

According to the online traffic monitoring service Inrix, the resulting congestion is severe, with queues stretching back as far as Junction 15 for the M4 interchange.

Severe Delays and Official Diversion

National Highways, the government-owned company responsible for England's motorways, has confirmed significant delays for motorists. Travel time is currently 60 minutes longer than usual on the anti-clockwise carriageway.

Even the clockwise side is experiencing major hold-ups, with drivers facing delays of approximately 45 minutes due to the knock-on effects of the closure and resulting traffic conditions.

To help guide stranded motorists, National Highways has activated an official diversion route. Drivers are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol which will be visible on road signs along the alternative route using local roads.

Ongoing Situation and Advice

The incident was first reported on Monday, November 10, 2025. The exact nature of the police incident has not been disclosed by the authorities at this time.

With the carriageway expected to remain closed for some time, commuters and other road users are strongly urged to avoid the area if possible and to allow for considerable extra journey time if their travel plans are essential.

We will continue to bring you the latest updates on this developing situation as more information is released by the police and National Highways.
