A tragic incident unfolded outside the Melbourne Showgrounds on Saturday evening when a vehicle mounted the kerb and struck pedestrians, resulting in one fatality and another serious injury. The collision occurred just before 5pm outside the Supanova Comic Con & Gaming event, a popular two-day fan convention held in Ascot Vale.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, a Toyota sedan veered onto the footpath, hitting two young men who were part of a group of three. A 20-year-old man was killed instantly, while another man of the same age sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. The third individual managed to avoid the oncoming vehicle and escaped unharmed.

Charges Filed Against Unlicensed Driver
On Sunday, authorities charged a 33-year-old man from Werribee with dangerous driving causing death and culpable driving. Police confirmed that the driver was unlicensed, holding only a learner permit at the time of the incident. Further charges are expected as the investigation progresses.
The accused appeared before Melbourne Magistrates Court on Sunday afternoon, where the gravity of the charges was underscored by the tragic outcome of his actions.
