Motorists in the London Borough of Hillingdon are being warned of significant travel disruption throughout January, with four separate road closures planned to allow essential utility works to proceed.
Major Three-Month Closure in Ickenham
The most extensive closure will affect Wallasey Crescent in Ickenham. It will be shut from its junction with Copthall Road East to Swakeleys Road for a full twelve weeks, starting at 8am on Monday, January 5 and continuing until 5pm on Friday, March 27.
This lengthy closure is to facilitate works by Affinity Water. A signed diversion route will direct traffic via Copthall Road East and Swakeleys Road. Residents living on the affected stretch will retain vehicular access to their properties, provided they do not interfere with the ongoing works.
Shorter Closures Across the Borough
Three other roads will face temporary closures for shorter periods. In Ruislip, Sleaford Close will be closed at its junction with Chichester Avenue from January 5 to January 23 (8am-5pm daily) for UK Power Networks works. No formal diversion will be posted, but resident access will be maintained.
Also in Ickenham, Edinburgh Drive will close for just two days on Saturday, January 10 and Sunday, January 11, again for Affinity Water. A diversion will operate via Glebe Avenue and Long Lane.
In Harefield, Springwell Lane will be shut from January 19 until February 9 for Cadent Gas works. The diversion route will be via Hill End Road, Rickmansworth Road, Park Lane, Coppermill Lane, Old Uxbridge Road, Denham Way, and Uxbridge Road.
Planning Ahead for Disruption
A common condition across all closures is that residents will keep access to their homes by car where it is safe and does not obstruct the utility companies' operations. Drivers who regularly use these routes are advised to plan alternative journeys and allow extra time for travel throughout January and beyond, particularly near the long-term Wallasey Crescent works.
The coordinated series of closures highlights a busy period of infrastructure maintenance in the north of the borough, affecting the areas of Harefield, Ickenham, and Ruislip.
