Motorists and residents in the London Borough of Harrow are facing a new wave of traffic disruption this January as a series of essential utility works prompt significant road closures across the area.
Major Water Works Cause Extended Disruption
The most notable closure affects Buckland Rise in Hatch End, which is scheduled to shut for nearly two months. The road will close on January 19 for essential water works and is not expected to reopen until March 6.
There is some relief for locals, however, as a separate long-term closure is finally coming to an end. Scot Grove, also in Hatch End, which has been closed since November 17, 2025, is anticipated to reopen on January 23. This closure was also for water infrastructure projects.
Stanmore and Edgware Also Affected
The disruption is not confined to Hatch End. Two roads in Stanmore will be closed for gas works during the month.
Jellicoe Gardens will be shut from January 5 to January 16, while Chartley Avenue will close from January 19 to February 2.
Further works will impact other parts of the borough. In Edgware, Summit Close will be closed for a shorter period from January 6 to January 9 for water works. Meanwhile, in Rayners Lane, Malvern Avenue is closed until January 5, also for water-related works.

Residents and commuters are strongly advised to plan their journeys in advance and look out for officially signed diversion routes to avoid getting caught in lengthy delays. The council and utility companies typically implement these closures to facilitate critical upgrades to water and gas mains, which are vital for local infrastructure.
