An elderly woman has tragically died following a hit-and-run collision in Liverpool, as police launch a direct appeal to the driver who fled the scene.
Appeal for Driver to 'Search Their Conscience'
The victim, an 81-year-old local woman, was walking to her neighbourhood shop in Fazakerley when she was struck by a dark-coloured car. The incident occurred on Longmoor Lane, near the junction with Third Avenue, at approximately 4.15pm on Friday, 5 December 2025.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the woman sustained serious injuries and passed away a short time later at Aintree Hospital.
Superintendent Siobhan Russell of Merseyside Police made an emotional plea, stating: "The 81-year-old victim had only popped out to shops, and now her family are trying to come to terms with her loss." She urged the motorist involved to come forward, saying, "I would like to take this opportunity for the driver of the car to search their conscience and come forward."
Police Hunt for Damaged Vehicle and Footage
Officers have cordoned off the area for forensic examination, with the road reopening by Saturday morning. The investigation is now focused on locating the vehicle, which failed to stop at the scene.
Police believe the car may have sustained significant damage from the impact and could have been parked up or abandoned in the local area or beyond. Superintendent Russell confirmed that specialist family liaison officers are supporting the woman's relatives at this devastating time.
Authorities are also appealing to the public for any information that could aid the investigation. They are particularly keen to obtain:
- Dashcam footage from drivers in the Longmoor Lane area around 4.15pm on Friday.
- CCTV or doorbell camera recordings from nearby homes or businesses.
- Any information about a dark-coloured car with recent front-end damage.
