A 23-year-old man has died after his BMW collided with four other vehicles following a police chase in East Sussex, leaving two other individuals with serious injuries. The fatal incident occurred on the A21 in Robertsbridge during the evening of Saturday, April 12, 2026, prompting a large emergency response.
Details of the Fatal Collision and Police Pursuit
The driver, identified as a resident of Hailsham, sped away from officers when they attempted to stop him, leading to a brief pursuit. His vehicle subsequently crashed into multiple other cars, resulting in his death at the scene. Sussex Police confirmed that his next of kin have been notified.
Seven people from the other vehicles were transported to hospital for medical treatment. Among them, two passengers sustained serious injuries, while five others suffered minor injuries requiring hospital care. After being notified by the force, we sent investigators to the police post incident procedures to begin gathering evidence and declared an independent investigation. Detective Sergeant Andy Wolstenholme of Sussex Police commented on the tragedy, saying, "This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of this young man and all those affected. An investigation is underway to understand the full circumstances and there will be increased police activity in the area while this is ongoing."
He added, "I would like to thank the public for their patience during the emergency response and for their understanding as our enquiries continue.
