Photos have captured ongoing works for a five-arm roundabout outside the new Lidl store in Swanley, which is otherwise complete and ready to begin trading. The supermarket, located on London Road at the entrance to Swanley, is finished, but the surrounding site remains under construction, with barriers and fencing blocking the area from the public.
Roundabout construction and site status
Images show a number of barriers surrounding several excavations at the site, with fencing blocking the area from the public. The car park, which appears to be complete, is raised and has several storage containers lining one side. Documents submitted alongside the original planning application for the new Lidl show a five-arm roundabout outside the 91-space car park.
The slip road off London Road has been closed since June, with signage indicating the works are expected to last 45 weeks, suggesting completion could be as late as April 2027. A Lidl spokesperson told this paper the chain is "targeting an opening early next year" for the store. No specific opening date has been announced, but Lidl has confirmed the store itself is complete and ready to begin trading once the surrounding roadworks are finished.
Planning approval and revisions
The store, which spans 2,546 square metres, was approved in 2024 despite concerns from residents about increased traffic and pollution. Revisions to the plans have been approved since construction began, including changes to the car park layout and the relocation of a bus stop.
Next steps for the Swanley store
The Lidl is expected to open early next year, once the roundabout and associated roadworks are completed. The site remains fenced off from the public until then.
