A new giant Donkey Kong plush toy has been released in the United States, but its price tag may shock fans: it costs $450, the same as a Nintendo Switch 2 console. The plush, available at Nintendo Store locations in New York and San Francisco, features the redesigned Donkey Kong look first seen in the 2023 Super Mario Bros. movie and later adopted in games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.
Plush Pricing Compared to Console
Fan Nymo shared a photo of the price tag on X (formerly Twitter), prompting comparisons to the Switch 2. Currently, the Switch 2 retails for $449.99 in the US, but Nintendo has announced a price increase to $499.99 later this year. Other regions, including the UK, will also see price hikes, though specific amounts have not been confirmed. In the UK, the plush would cost approximately £334, while the Switch 2 currently costs £395.99, with an estimated post-increase price of £430.
Availability and Future Bundles
It is unclear if the plush will be available in Japan or at the new UK Nintendo store in London (which is a small section within Argos). Nintendo has announced new Switch 2 bundles for the US this summer, priced at $499.99, including the console and a digital game of the buyer's choice from Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, or Pokémon Pokopia. These bundles offer a discount before the price hike, but Nintendo has not confirmed similar bundles for the UK.
Nintendo has apologized for the price increase and promised a robust software lineup to enhance the Switch 2's value. However, the company lacks major releases for the second half of 2026, aside from a recently announced Star Fox 64 remake (also known as Lylat Wars) for summer. Rumors also suggest a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time could be Nintendo's big Christmas release.
